014 — Jam Sessions: Private Edition on ripple.fm

Hey. How's it going? I'm Ryan Hefner, and this is the All Play podcast. So this last week, I started to dip a toe into a new yet another new podcast world. I signed up for Ripple.fm , which is a new project by Brian Casel.

And, essentially, what it is is a it's a platform that I mean, yeah, there's private podcasting, but, really, it's it's more of just like a podcast engagement platform. So you can essentially sign up and add in all the favorite podcasts that you want. And then each of those podcasts end up having these, like, a message threads that you can engage with. And you can also find subscribers or fans of of similar podcasts that you listen to and talk to them whenever. And then there's the feature of basically having your own private podcast.

And a private a private podcast is essentially like a Ripple only podcast. Subscribers get their own individual RSS feed link, and then you can, like, copy and paste that into, like, whatever your, you know, podcatcher of toy choice is. And you can basically just, you know, recreate episodes and and and publish them and distribute to this kind of private ish, community. I mean, the cool thing is then each of your episodes allows you to, have conversations with the people who are, you know, subscribed, and and they can they can actually, let me see here. That's the show.

But you can basically have conversations on your podcast. And then Oh, interesting. Okay. Yeah. And then you can even have it on the individual episodes or publish on the platform.

But, so with that said, I, you know, I wanted to try out the the the platform. I think it's kind of interesting. I just dig in the I guess just dig into the idea of, like, podcasting in the podcast world right now. And I thought this was kinda interesting. So I signed up, obviously started adding in all my favorites, podcasts that I listened to, and then also decided to create my own private podcast.

And that private podcast, at least for now, I'm calling it Jam Sessions private edition. So Jam Sessions and I don't know if I've got it. I don't think I've talked about this on this on this this show before, but when I was back in New York, I was running these these kind of I guess they're kinda like mass they're like kinda like meetups. They're kinda like masterminds, but they were called jam sessions. I was hosting them at my buddy's coworking place.

And originally, I was gonna try to do them weekly. I ended up transitioning them just to do it monthly just because the cadence was a little bit a little bit too rapid for the, you know, the people that we had showing up. But, so we're doing it by I guess, like, bimonthly and then monthly and kinda started trailing off. But, essentially, Jam Sessions were a place where 10 people could sign up. I kinda just threw it out there.

I wasn't really sure who was gonna sign up, so I just had 10 slots. I mean, I did I did have some friends, obviously, who are gonna partake in it, but then it also just kinda had this serendipitous ability of just kinda bringing other people along, whether that was other people from the co working space or just people who found out about it. But the jam sessions were really cool, and they were this, like, intimate space to share what you're working on and talk about, like, you know, stuff that you're running into. I mean, similar to this podcast except, you know, obviously, like, 10 other people in the room. So you were able to kinda have, like, a sounding board and, you know, do, like, a little mini presentation if you had 1 or just, you know, just kinda riff and talk about stuff that you already had going on.

And so I figured, well, this private podcast thing might be a good space for that because I have been thinking about kind of, like, figuring out some way to kinda reengage that whole jam sessions idea and and get some of those conversations going. I also definitely could see just having jam sessions be kinda like a interview show where I just jump on and talk with some people who are doing cool stuff or just stuff that I'm interested in or whatever. I'm gonna try to see if I can have Brian on a show and just, like, dig into, like, what he's got going on. He's working on I feel like he and I are actually kind of there's a lot of similarities, between both, like, projects that he's, like, starting to work on as well as the stuff that he's dealing with as far as getting back into doing, clients, you know, taking on clients and doing consulting and contracting and stuff. And so it'll be cool just to kinda jam and see, like, what approaches he's taking. But yeah. So that's Jam Sessions private edition.

I just wanted to do a little quick intro to that and let you know that it's out there. And hopefully, it should be pretty cool. And who knows? Maybe there will be a public edition coming out shortly too. But, I'm gonna end it there.
